On their own these fabrics do not posses strength much beyond that of any woven fabric, but once they are combined with resin to make a finished product, their strength can be astonishing.

As a supplier of advanced composites, our range of conventional 'staples' of composites manufacture limited but we do make a point of stocking high performance woven E-Glass and also powder-bound chopped strand mat, which unlike conventional chopped strand mat, is suitable for use with epoxy resin systems. This is particularly important considering the preference for using epoxy moulds when creating epoxy parts.

    Spread-Tow Carbon Fibre

    Carbon Fibre Braided Sleeve

    Our carbon fibre braided sleeve is 2/2 twill biaxial carbon fibre fabric that has been woven into a continuous sleeve or tube. The resulting carbon fibre sleeve can be slid over a release coated tube or mandrel and used to create very strong tubes.

    Aramid fibres, including Kevlar, are widely used in advanced composites either on their own or in conjunction with other high performance reinforcements such as carbon fibre. Kevlar (and similar fabrics) can provide heat/flame resistance, impact destruction resistance (inclusion of Kevlar in motorsports composites is a regulatory requirement in many motorsports) and are also used in body armour and bullet-proofing to name but a few applications.

    Aramid Flat Braid

    Aramids (such as Kevlar® and Twaron®) are very high tenacity man-made fibres with excellent mechanical properties in tensile strength and especially in elongation-to-break.

    Aramid Flat Braid is a braid made from high tenacity yellow aramid fibre woven in such a way that the braid is 'flat', i.e. it is not a tube/sleeve but instead resembles a densely woven tape.

    Diolen cloth is a high tenacity manmade yarn with characteristics similar to aramid fibres. Diolen reinforcement offers excellent elongation-to-break properties at a low cost. Innegra is a polypropylene fibre that can be used independently to provide weight reduction, levels of impact resistance and damage tolerance.

  • GLASS FIBRE REINFORCEMENT

    Glass fibre is still one of the most commonly used reinforcement materials in composites and comes in many different formats including traditional chopped strand mat, woven rovings, woven glass cloth and multi-axials. In advanced composites, chopped strand mat is generally now used only in pattern and mould making but woven glass and multi-axials in particular still make up the majority of composite reinforcement used today.

    A staple of the composites industry, chopped strand mat (or CSM as it is known) is widely used in mould making and the production of large GRP mouldings.
